OpenSuse 13.2, issues with home Wifi WEP encrypted

Hello,

I have switched over from OpenSuse 13.1 to 13.2 (KDE) over the holidays and I have been having minor issues here and there, besides graphics, I am finding network issues as well.

With 13.1 I has issues for random disconnection from TLS, PEAP, Campus-wide University wireless system. I am yet to experience that on 13.2

Now, with my home wireless system using WEP security, I am having issues.

I do not have any issues connected to the network manually,
but once I set the password and configure it to auto-connect when the system is in range, I cannot. I have to delete the network and manually re-connect myself everytime.

Any suggestions?

WEP is a bad choice but I guess you already know that and it’s probably nothing to do with your issue
Which to me sounds more like something peculiar to your personal settings.
Nevertheless, I probably would try WPA and see if there is any difference.

You could also try creating a new user
Login there and setup the connection. Does it behave the same?

Unfortunately yes, from creating a new user.

As for WEP to WPA, I actually think that may solve the issue because I spent my holidays at a different location with WPA encryption network and didn’t have this issue there either. I am actually switching internet services next week so I will have a more secure network and hopefully this issue will not trouble me anymore.

ISP’s and wireless security are really unrelated.
Some very old access points/routers may not have WPA, but it would have to be old.

The device you are connecting too will most likely have the ability to use WPA.

IIRC WEP setup in a router, you enter a passphrase which creates a key. So you might use a passphrase such as: ft9HH32qaL
It will generate a 128 bit key
I may be wrong but I think it’s the key that is generated that you need for access.
