openSUSE 13.2 is exhausted

Hi, i hope this is the right place to ask. I installed the openSUSE 13.2 in this machine http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c03363679&lc=en&product=5231362#N352 Note: This machine had been altered which you can find in this link https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/494278-Hard-Drive-Recommendation? As the title said “exhausted”, this machine uses too much cpu/memory and utilizing almost 100% of swap(4GB) while rendering architectural visualization in blender cycles using cpu. When blender cycles is rendering, other application like firefox is sluggish. In openSUSE 13.1 it was not the case it was rendering with ease. I tested one of my work in blender I did with openSUSE 13.1. In openSUSE 13.1 blender cycles finished the rendering in 40 minutes and I can open other applications normally. In openSUSE 13.2 it took 1 hour and a couple minutes to do the job and I had a hard time opening firefox and it was slow browsing this forum. I am using xfce 4.10. Any advise is appreciated, if you need more info just respond to this post and I will be happy to provide.

Presumably you have both 13.1 and 13.2 installed? Or did you just upgrade leaving yourself no room for falling back?

So are you saying it is Blender that is the issue?
ie; causing all the cpu and swap to be used? - or have you isolated other processes that you didn’t mention?

Is the system otherwise OK (taking Blender out of the mix for a moment)

Thanks for the reply.

This, used to be a 13.1 but clean installed with 13.2 except that /home partition was kept intact.
That’s right, no room for falling back. If this thing persist I may wipe 13.2 and go back to 13.1.

It could be a blender issue but the same blender version (2.72b) was the one I compared in 13.1 and 13.2.
In 13.1 I didn’t notice it using the swap unlike in 13.2.
I don’t see any process that is hogging the system except when I try blender cycles to start rendering.

So I have to say, it sounds like the 13.2 system is OK
So I wouldn’t rush in to anything as a result of what is happening with Blender.

It may be there are some who will both better understand and be able to test this for you

Thanks, hopefully there is.

I made an improvement
I reinstalled openSUSE 13.2, but this time I
secure erase first the samsung ssd drive, then did
the firmware update and samsung performance restoration, all procedures using a bootable iso image
then used gdisk to partition the ssd drive, then reinstalled openSUSE 13.2.

I tried to render the same blender cycles project and now it did the job in 40 minutes and 14 seconds.
