openSUSE 13.2, fglx can't start x as a user

Fresh install of openSUSE 13.2, after installing fglx64 drivers for 2x HD5770 cards

On boot, system hangs on starting x server. Logs indicate xf860OpenConsole: Cannot open /dev/tty0 (No such file or directory)

If I sudo startx, system will start the x server as root and the drivers seem to be functioning properly.

Leads me to think there’s a permission error somewhere but I’m not sure how to resolve it.

Relatively new to Linux, any help would be appreciated.

You can only start x as root, not as User.

Any Problems in the /var/log/Xorg.0.log?

Don’t have a Xorg.0.log, but I do have a Xorg.6.log.

Don’t see any errors in with though

Ok, I’ve tried all three versions of fglrx64 available in the AMD repo to no avail.

again, when I startx as root, and run lspci -k from a terminal window, it shows both cards using the fglrx driver.

During a normal boot, the system hangs before getting to the gui login and I have to alt-F1 to get to text login prompt.

Id really like to get the non-oss drivers working so I can enable crossfireX, any help would be appreciated.

Issue is resolved, apparently the display manager (GDM) was the problem.:sarcastic:

after installing lightdm and updating /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager I am able to boot using the latest fglrx driver.
