Greetings!
openSUSE 13.2
Has anyone got a VNC ‘one time session’ to successfully log in to KDE?
Been working this issue for several days, now.
Several of you have offered suggestions.
The situation is this:
Using my vncviewer on my Windows machine, I can successfully connect to my suse 13.2 machine and am presented with the KDM login page.
When correct username and password are entered, the login dialog disappears and background remains, no desktop appears. (I’ve tried all the other installed desktops with the same result.) After a few minutes, the login dialog reappears.
I have a openSUSE 12.2 machine where this works just fine. As far as I can tell, config files are the same. Looking at the messages log files on the two machines, I can see some differences, but nothing to help me.
It worked fine when I tried it last weekend between my 13.2 system and a Tumbleweed VM (running inside VirtualBox on the same host), in both directions.
Have you installed all updates? There has been one for tigervnc recently. I couldn’t get that to work before with similar symptoms as you describe.
How did you actually activate VNC? I just enabled it in YaST->Network Services->Remote Administration (VNC).
On 13.1 you have to be very careful with the way the hostname is set up in the server. The hostname & address in networks setting has to agree with the DHCP, the DNS and the /etc/hosts. Otherwise you may have a perfectly working system apart from vnc. There a referential integrity issue here where some apps are getting the info from different sources.
