Just got a working server from an offsite, changed the ip address (public is only configured) and working fine. Hit the logout button and screen went blank and it doesn’t respond to anything and cannot SSH into it. Any suggestions? Concerned just popping power will result in an unsuable machine. Thanks in advance.
It appears to be something to do with our KVM switch. Ended up just popping it with the power switch and trying it again - with the same result. Finall I moved it to its own keyboard, monitor and mouse - it works fine now. FYI the KVM I am using is IoGear MiniView Ultra+ GCS 1808. Hopefully this will help someone in the future.

Several people haver reported strange problems with kvm switches. At
least you have to install without them.

The problem is detection of detail through the switch
You maybe able to hard code the specs into /etc/X11/xorg.conf file but that can be tricky and you will have to read up on the details

Not always. I have an older Cybex switch and it didn’t interfere with my
installation at all.
Just FWIW.

I’ve seen this too. A friend has one. Where he told me Fedora was the only distro Live distro he could run, never mentioning the KVM switch, I could install openSUSE 12.2, 12.3 without issues.
