Opensuse 13.1 VM fails to boot after upgrade

I have/had a nice VM running and it has been of no issue to me whatsoever, this morning after it being in a saved state for a week, i started it and installed all of the updates. i did the --‘zypper up’, which was a mistake.

After runnig through various packages it finished with the usual, some programs are running with deleted files so i just rebooted the machine.

Now half way through booting i get the following.

Astartjob is running for dev-diskby\x2di…x2dpart1.device or part3.device

this fails after trying a fair bit. the times out

Timed out waiting for device dev-diskby\x2di…x2dpart1.device or part3.device
Dependency failed for /home
Dependency failed for Local File Systems.

I have looked into some of the VMware\vitualisation threads but this is not a cloning issue (as referenced here)
although they seem remarkably similar.

I have been able to boot into a recovery disk, and tried some things but ti all seem seems a mess to me…Normally its no bother, but there is alot of systems data on the disk i need to evaluate before friday.

Can anyone shine some lights on this issue for me? I am probably missing something.

OS OS13.1
VM virtualbox
