At this time around the additional repositories for the opensuse 13.1 release where ready almost immediately. Except the NVidia driver repository which is still lacking a 13.1 repository. How come this repository is lagging behind? The repository itself has always been lagging behind. The latest driver is now version 331.20 released on 2013.11.06 and the opensuse 12.1 nvidia repository has had version 319.32 for a long time now.
Perhaps its time I get my hands dirty in installing directly from Nvidia itself. Saves me time not having to wait for the repository to get updated.
One other reason I haven’t installed the nvidia driver directly is because I read somewhere here that if you plan on using the latest linux kernel you might have some trouble getting the driver to work.
So, anyway, anyone got a clue when it will be ready? I was hoping to upgrade my distro to 13.1 this coming weekend.
Apparently, if you have an older card requiring the x11-video-nvidia driver, this repository doesn’t work as the driver needs nvidia-gfx-kmp, which is not supplied.
That’s correct.
But the problem here is that this old driver kernel module just does not compile on kernel 3.11. (I have seen an inofficial patch for this though).
On the other hand the 96.43.xx driver doesn’t work with the latest X either and didn’t even in 12.3 already AFAIK (it only supports X up to 1.12).
So it should be removed from the repo until nvidia updates the driver to work with newer X/Kernel (I don’t know if they ever will though).
It actually was, but mysteriously re-appeared when the repo was setup again after disappearing suddenly…
