I installed today OpenSuse 13.1 to virtual host (VMware). After installation I set up IP-address, hostname etc. and proxy settings, “username@windows.domain” and password.
Yast worked fine, no problems. Repos and updates available/visible.
Firefox with system proxy settings did NOT work (=no internet), but after using Manual settings “domain\username” it starter to work.
I don’t know why, but it had an internet connection…
Then I ran Yast Online Updates, installed only few at 1st time, re-started Online Updatera and installed tons of updates, and rebooted.
After that Yast still worked well. But Firefox or Konqueror didn’t have any access to internet. With system or manual settings. I didn’t change anything during updating or after that.
Has anyone else met this problem with browsers?
Best regards,
Hantte
P.S.
This might been asked earlier, but I couldn’t find answer.
Microsoft ISA hasn’t been a supported product (by MS) for… I can’t imagine how many years, must be maybe 7 yrs?
MS Forefront (I think that’s the name) is the current product, and probably best answers would be found in a MS forum, configuring typical Linux clients (openSUSE would be no different).
But, IIRC regarding ISA…
AD authentication for Linux clients is spotty, configure IP address authentication instead.
Like most web proxies, they are configured separately from “other” non-web traffic. You need to manually configure the proxy re-direction script and push it out to each web browser client. If you haven’t done this, web browsers won’t work because of course they will be blocked (more than likely minimally because they need to be re-configured to use port 8080 minimally but your script can configure more).
An alternative exists to configuring your web browsers to use the ISA proxy, you can configure web traffic to pass through like other traffic authenticated only by the IP address. With this configuration, you’ll get faster web response but disables all the proxy filtering protection.
