I wanted to see if 13.1 corrected some issues I’m having with eSATA and LVM (it didn’t) so I went to software.opensuse.org: Download openSUSE 13.1, selected the KDE Live button and then selected 64-bit and BitTorrent and proceeded to download the .iso. After bringing the file down and checking the data from within Ktorrent (it passed) I did a media check from within Yast. It said: “Result: Error – MD5 sum does not match
This medium should not be used.”
So I booted up the Live DVD and did a media check from there. It also reported an error on the media. This kind of surprised me because the bit torrent protocol seems to have some reasonable error checking built in, but I deleted the image file and went back to the download web site and downloaded via the Direct Link.
This time I also grabbed the md5 and sha1 files (I should have done that for the bit torrent image) and checked the image before doing a media check. They both said that the image was OK.

So, according to the md5 and sha1 hashes what I downloaded is exactly what’s on the download web site, but that image doesn’t match the md5 hash stored within the image.
What’s going on? Is this a known issue that my search didn’t find?

I had pretty much the same issue/s and burned the iso (i686) 3 times
with same result.
I also downloaded and burned the install i586-dvd and it tested and
worked fine. The live cd/dvd booted Ok into a live session but I since
gave up on it and threw it in the bin. For 13.1, Net install Cd or Dvd
install iso is your best alternative, IMO).
I can confirm that the 32-bit image suffers from the same problem: the image checks OK per the md5 and sha1 hashes but fails the YAST->Media Check as well as the boot-time media check (called from Grub).
So is this something that gets reported to bugzilla?

That is exactly what I did, too. It even gave same warnings during normal
live cd session boot up, when splash screen is removed.

This should have been done when it was still in development but it won’t
hurt if you file a bug report. As it is, the live-cd got a number of bad
reviews for openSUSE 13.1 and I think next release should have better
QA testing.

Now that it is released and the iso propagated on various servers, I doubt
that the problem will be fixed and a new iso released and thus, IMO, it is
(would be) best to work around it and use alternative isos for an
install or use as is for a live session to test hardware.
