openSUSE 13.1, Asus Xonar D2x & VLC problems - no 4.1?

Hello, got recently the Asus Xonar D2X soundcard, a beautifull device and fully supported by alsa (at least on their website). Also done a clean install for 13.1 x86_64. Now:
-tried to run some random movie, VLC says no codecs; trying to add codecs from packman repo, suse complains about dependencies, solved all that. Ta-naaaaa I got video and audio working;
-in openSUSE 12.3 got no problems with D2X except that it was recognized as some Oxygen-whatever-chipset and also (see below) got the same only 5.1 option but it was working fine with 4.1; now it’s properly recognized in 13.1;
-how can I configure my soundcard to use 4.1 speakers? I only got Stereo > 5.1 > 7.1 in Audio Hardware Setup;
-in VLC everything that sounds “surround” makes use only of my front and back speakers as in 5.1 - this means, no voice and no subwoofer;

PS please don’t tell me to buy a 5.1 system - got a 10 years old Logitech z560 THX and very happy with it. Thanks!

Hi there I have an Asus Xonar DX on 13.1 configured as my primary card. To select a different output you need pavucontrol. In the Configuration tab in pavucontrol you can select 4.1 profile for soundcard. Or at least I can. lol!

Thanks! That did it - I never used pavucontrol, that is a flimsy piece of software; even now flickers and jumps around the sliders as hell so nothing changed there. But it did have a 4.1 option even if in KMix > Audio setup nothing appears (blank field) rotfl!

Ah, I also have microphone issues, I can barely here it and in alsamixer (terminal) Mic Boost is dead (off). Any insight? I did maxed out all the sliders possible both in kmix and pavucontrol… Just no luck.

BTW: in alsamixer i still get the 5.1 configuration :slight_smile: … weird…
