Opensuse 12.3 fresh install Virtualization Info/help needed

Hello everyone.
as the subject says I am doing a fresh install of OS12.3 in attempt to build a VM server /File server.
the server layout is below in “what I have” section.
I am trying to setup all using BTRFS on data drives, Xen as VM hypervisor.

my questions are :
#1. Is this a bug or just limitation related to btrfs as still new FS ?
while trying to setup the server (been trying for several weeks now, many unsuccessful setup and redo) I came to realization that using btrfs in system partitions like “/root”, “/boot”
does not work. and if I want to use RAIDED system disk I must stick with Ext4 FS
this is a specially true when using Xen. every time I tried to setup Xen when building system
using BTRFS /root and /home volumes it broke boot and error out into either unbootable system or grub safe mode only. as soon as you try booting into Xen kernel. the grub simply could not find the proper device. using Ext4 for all system volumes worked in the first try.

#2. while researching Hypervisor options, like KVM and Xen, found system calls to test if my hardware supports Virtualization needed for KVM.
a. “$ lscpu”
b. “$ grep -E “(vmx|svm)” --color=always /proc/cpuinfo”

at the time my system was setup using minimal (text only) install following the “Perfect Server guide with ISPconfig”.

running command “a” returned Virtualization = AMD-V
and command “b” also had a reassuring results that my system supports virtualization.

when I tried this commands last night after having setup Xen, I get mixed results on command “a”
every time I run it.
I mean I run it 10 times and 5 times I get virtualization = paravirtual
and 5 I get virtualization = none

and steadily I get nothing for command “b”

How is it I got good results repeatedly on one setup and bad results repeatedly on the other?
have anyone see this before?

WHAT I HAVE:
a SupeMicro 24 bay server with SM H8DME-2 MB
2x 6 core AMD opterons @ 2.4 mHz
and 56Gb RAM

2x1T HDD for system RAID-1
Usage :
both 1T drives are partitioned as folow
1 - 8Mib Grub BIOS partition both drives
1 - 1Gb Ext4 partition on both drives (to be raided as /boot)
1 - 4Gb swap on both drives
1 - 300Gb Ext4 on both drives (to be raided as /root)
1 - 400+ Ext4 on both drives (to be raided as /home)

RAID-1 setup like
MD0 - using 1Gb partitions form above as /boot
MD1 - using 4gb as swap
MD2 - using 300GB partitions from above as /root
MD3 - using 400+ from above as /home

1x2T HDD for DataStore
single partition on BTRFS mounted as /DATA1

2x3T HDD for Media Data
single partition on BTRFS using both drives, mounted as /DATA2
sub-volume: /media1 /media2

Please ask a moderator to move this to the virtualization forum here.
You can use the report button.

Yes, you should not use grub on the boot partition. You can create a
/boot partition using ext2, then the rest of “/” can be btrfs.

Please hold off on answers till moved to the VM forum.

Thank You,

sorry, you are right, it should go into Virtualization.
it just looked to me as new install issue as well , rather than Virtualization only.

Its OK as we are in the right forum now. Good luck in finding a solution.

Thank You,
