Hi,
I need to connect from my OpenSuse 12.3 box to a Windows machine via plain IPsec. It took me a while to find out that there is a bug fixed in version 0.8 of the ipsec-tools package that solves an issue with phase2 negotiation (sorry cannot find the link to it anymore).
0.8 is a two year old release so I tried to find compiled binaries in the repositories or on the net but I couldn’t find any. So I tried to compile it from the sources but I am quite new to this Linux biz and there is some patching to the sources required in order to compile it on Kernel 3.7. Long story short - I failed. (commit ipsec-tools for openSUSE:Factory and SourceForge.net: IPsec Tools: Detail: 3601972 - ipsec-tools does not build with kernel 3.7+)
I then booted a Fedora 18 VM as it says it contains ipsec-tools in version 0.8 and… yep, I got it up and running with this version of the tools.
So I have two questions now:
1.) Anyone here that could direct me in the right direction on hwo to compile the 0.8 ipsec-tools on OpenSuse 12.3?
2.) How do I find out the package maintainer and submit a version upgrade for the official distribution?
Thanks for your help.
Regards
Tim

There is a home repo that has it. Try again, use the search box at
opensuse.org.
Of course, using a package from a home repository is an unknown.
And there may be reasons why even factory is using 0.7.3

Woohooo, thanks Robin.
Can’t believe I had such a hard time finding a build. Even with you pointing me in the right direction I couldn’t find via search on opensuse.org. The right key words and once again Google did the trick.
Thanks, just mounted a Windows SMB share across the Internet. One reason less to fire up a Windows machine.

Tim

http://software.opensuse.org/package/ipsec-tools
Procedure: You type the name in the search box. Select the exact name
from the list offered, if several. There is also a little wrench icon
where you can select the distribution and release, and also a tick box
to “Show development, language and debug packages”.
Also, when the search first produces results, there is a clickable “Show
other versions” below that displays well, other versions. And then,
below each version (distribution) there is another one named “Show
unstable packages” that displays other repositories, like home repos.
