opensuse 12.1 web cam issue with skype and chat roulette

Hello. First off, I am running opensuse 12.1 and my web cam is a Gigaware web cam with mic usb.
My web cam works in cheese and guvc veiw. I now get sound on skype and see my fiance’s video feed, but she can not see me and my web cam light dose not turn on. She can here me though, I am not sure what device skype is using or how to change it. I have the same problem with web based video chat sites. How do I fix this? thank you

Have you actually tried going into Skype > Options > Video Devices to see if your web-cam has been detected or is in the drop-down list?

edit: also check Skype - openSUSE Wiki

yes and it shoes my camera in the drop down, but I get now picture and dose not even turn on the light of my camera. I believe skype was using the onboard mic of my laptop for sound. After trying to switch the mic over to my usb camera I now have no sound.! help I need to get this sorted out before my fiance calls, it has been so long since I spoke to or saw her. thanks

also I installed with the above link and just ran the code in the jittery cam section now skype will not start and get the below message :
KDEInit could not launch ‘skype’.:
Could not find ‘skype’ executable.

Not sure why you followed that instruction as you never had jittery video.

I don’t know anything about gigaware webcams but a quick google indicates people don’t have much luck with them and linux.
If it were me I’d save myself a whole lot of headaches now and into the future and get a uvc compatible webcam which are all designed to work well with the linux uvc driver.
There is a list of supported webcams here - although I’m not sure if it is an exhaustive list.

I guess you may be able to get some ideas from this thread

You could try using pulse audio volume control (pavucontrol) to tune skype (and your audio in general) with pulse audio. I blogged about this here: Pulseaudio Basics for openSUSE with pavucontrol - Blogs - openSUSE Forums (go down to the end of my posts on my blog on this subject for the Skype example).

please also open a terminal window and post the output of the command below
