OpenSuSE 12.1 update not working from Yast

Dear All,

Yast2 fails to access the OpenSuSE 12.1 update site Index of /update/12.1 even though the site is accessible from a browser. Please let me know if I have to make any changes on my repository list. These are the ones on my list.

Thanks before hand

i guess this is a very new 12.1 install…or, at least it has not yet
had its first update after the install…if that is true try this:

in a terminal:

su -
zypper patch

and accept the updates which are lined up waiting (there will be a lot),
afterwards YaST Online Update should work, when the next update is
available…

if that doesn’t work i would suspect that mirrorBbrain (a re-director
you go to when using the download.opensuse.org address) is sending you
to a mirror which is currently in flux (updating, out of date, whatever)
and if you try again in a few minutes (or hour or days, depending on why
it is in flux) it will work again…

by the way, when posting here always identify which desktop you are
using…because IF you are using KDE you should disable apper (the tray
living thing which announces when you have updates available) because it
is broken…

Today? or always?
Because today others have reported problems.

Next time use please code tags.

(from 11.4 x86_64 “Celadon” at Telcontar)

Please use CODE tags around computer text you post: http://forums.opensuse.org/english/information-new-users/advanced-how-faq-read-only/451526-posting-code-tags-guide.htm
And then include the prompt, the command and the output in one sweep with your mouse copy/paste. Thus you do not have to tell “These are the ones on my list.”, because everybody can see what you used and what you got.

Thus, please repost using

zypper lr -d

because the above listing is corrupted.

I to am having problems with Yast2 and the software updates.
I can get to the repositories via Firefox, but not via the software update.
I am working on a site that has a proxy that is configured by a script e.g. “http://autoproxy.eu.csc.com/proxy.pac
I put this into firefox and it worked. How do I get Yast to do the same please?

I tried the “zypper patch” as suggested but get the following results.
linux-yrxg:~ # zypper patch

Hello Westhadden,

Welcome here,

But please, please, please. Do not hang you fresh problem at the end of someone else’s problem. Because:

  1. many people will not see this when they search for fresh poblems to provide help on (something that is not good for you);
  2. your problem is almost certain not the same as this thread is about (else you would have used the solution provided here), and it being different, it will create a mess of cross questions and answers about different problems in this thread.(bad for you and for the OP here).

Thus please create a new thread of your own, in the subforum that fits your problem best, ad with a good telliing title. That is the best way to draw the attention of people into reading your problem.

And BTW, while you are new here, let me point you to an important, but hidden feature in the Forums software. When you want to post computer text in a post (and we love you doing that), copy/past is (including prompt, command and output) between CODE tags: http://forums.opensuse.org/english/information-new-users/advanced-how-faq-read-only/451526-posting-code-tags-guide.html
