openSUSE 12.1 PPPOE

I would really like to switch to openSUSE 12.1 KDE (from Kubuntu). But I have not had any success in connecting to the internet. In Kubuntu I can use the pppoeconf command in a terminal and there is no problem. My internet provider requires I enter a username and password (both of which I of course have).

What I need are clear, complete and, hopefully, simple directions for establishing this connection. If I can do it, I’m all for openSUSE.

Hope someone can be of help.

Thanks in advance!

Hello, go to YaST2 and put your root password, then go to Network
Devices -> DLS, click the Add button and fill the parameters. Don’t
forget to select PPP over Ethernet en the PPP Mode

Thanks! I’ll give it a try. One question though: I want to try this from the liveCD, because if I can’t successfully make the connection I won’t be using openSUSE and don’t want to go through the hassles of installing, uninstalling and installing another distribution. What is the root password for ‘liveuser’? Can I use ‘su’?

I don’t know the livecd root password, but you can type “sudo su”
and change it
