kexec reboot always freeze in the 12.1 installation, is there any way to disable kexec on startup so it does a normal reboot?
So if kexec fails, pull out the CD, push reset or do a Ctrl-Alt-Del and see if it boots up then. The kexec is faster but also avoids a real hardware reboot just in case there are more edits required, but on most systems, a real reboot should also work. And, there are other reasons it could fail, such as video which may need that you use the kernel load option nomodeset for instance. You did not post enough info to tell what else might be wrong.
Thank You,
You don’t have to teach me how to reboot the machine. I was asking for a way to disable kexec during installation altogether since it never works on my hardware. I know about nomodeset, setting that during installation and removing it afterwords might have worked but it is not preferred. In previous versions of opensuse I remember always having set nomodeset during installation or the system would not boot at all. 12.1 boots fine, but like I said kexec makes the system freeze during installation.
I can confirm this. It also failed for me on some machines, maybe even on all machines, but I didn’t pay too much attention. I had to do a reset every time. It’s a bug indeed.
As far as I know, there is no way to disable kexec during the installation, but you can post a bug report to our developers here: Bugzilla Main Page And as an expert rebooter, you can just remove the CD or DVD and press the reset button and continue on with the installation.
Thank You,
There is already a bug report: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=733273
Then in such a case (of an existing bug report), it would be best to add in your own comments to the existing report to support the issue further then.
Thank You,
