openSUSE 12.1 complains about a filesystem consistency problem when asked during install to shrink an NTFS (Windows 7) partition. openSUSE 11.4, on the other hand, is quite willing to proceed. This appears to be a regression in openSUSE 12.1.
One should not shrink NTFS in Linux anyway. Do it in Windows before installing openSUSE!
