so basically what’s happening is this:
i select Installation on the initial dvd menu, it loads the kernel and my computer restarts. it doesnt seem to matter what options i select. ive tried No ACPI, text mode, safe settings, VESA mode. I just can’t figure out what’s going wrong.
I have an HP Pavilion Elite HPE-400
AMD Phenom II x4
nVidia GT 430
im not sure about motherboard and such.
yeah. i’ve tried with 3 different burns now. the full dvd version of 12.1, a gnome livecd for 12.1, and a gnome livecd of 11.4. i thought maybe it was some new thing with 12.1 so i was gonna try to install 11.4 and then upgrade. i cant get that one to go past loading kernel either. it loads it completely and the screen goes black, looks like its gonna move on, but my computer just restarts.
That said, I have to point you to the fact that it would help people helping you when you at least try to answer their questions fully. And when you can’t, explain why.
Now @gogalthorp asked you two things (I see two ? in his post). You more or less anwered his first question by stating that you burned three different DVDs (on the same burner, with the same parameters?). But you definitely did not answer his second question. You are free to answer of course, but at least tell why you are unable or do not like to answer a question. There could be several reasons, technical, physical, time, understanding, many. But ignoring is a way leading to people ignoring you and that will not help you in solving your problem.
means: did you check the install disk/media by selecting “Check
Installation Media” when you booted the install disk and got to this

Keep in mind - you aren’t just answering the question for the user, you’re answering it for anyone (like me) who might be Googling the question later on down the road. Snarky comments like “you didn’t answer the question” creates a dead thread with useless information.
For the record, I’m having the exact same problem and it does the exact same thing when you check media.
The solution is to highlight install from the menu WITHOUT pressing enter, select F5 to change the kernel setting to “Safe Settings” and press Enter. The install should proceed normally.
