OpenSUSE 12.1 Base

I installed OpenSUSE on an old IBM P4 I had lying around. I planned to use the computer till I get my Mac. The thing is, while I love the KDE4 desktop interface, its a bit slow and isn’t as responsive as when I install Debian with Gnome2 on it. I know that there aren’t any repositories for Gnome2 in the current version and I did a search on the net and found that one guy had added the old 11.4 repositories and installed it.
I also found a more convenient page which showed me that the KDE3 repositories are still there and I can still install KDE3 if I choose. I did and noticed that I had two versions of the same applications on my computer now. Once from the KDE4 and one from the KDE3
I’d like to just have one.
So I thought if installed the base system and then KDE3, that would be fine. But I can’t find a disc on the web that will allow me to install the base.
I saw Suse Studio and thought that maybe someone has already a version there with KDE3 or Gnome 2 alone. But I haven’t found one.

Any help???

Try xfce.

So remove one - if dependencies allow. If not, do not :stuck_out_tongue:

You download the full dvd, then choose one of the basic patterns.

Or the net install cd (not so much to download), that is how I did.
Netinstall, choose minimal system with X11 and after install is complete
add the kde3 repo and install kde3 pattern (1-click install or with yast
does not matter much).

Oh please ignore that last part about kde3 !!! I somehow mangaed to be
in the wrong thread - sorry.

But by accident, net install is still a good option here for a base install.

No, it is correct, the OP wants a base system with kde3 or gnome 2.
