openSuSE 11 - Yast: Sort by available Version

Hi all,

I recently installed SuSE 11 and have the following “problem”.

With SuSE 10.3 I could sort the installed packages by “available Updates”. That means if I clicked on the column header “available version” of the yast software list (in German: Verfügbare Version) the packages for which updates are available appear on top of the list.

This feature was very nice, because I could find and select exactly the updates that I want (e.g. small download size, bugfixes, …).

With SuSE 11 I can’t find this feature :frowning:
Is there any alternative?

Thanks for your help

Hmmm… no info/tip

Did the problem become clear?

The new package selector has an option for that:

To show which packages have updates available, press the button on the top of the Package Selector labeled: Upgrades. This will show all of the packages that have upgrades available. I use the English (US) version of YaST, but here is a screenshot of the button to give a more clear picture. Click Here to see the screenshot. The upgrades button is the center one on the top panel.

Hope that helps!

Under YAST go to online update and it shows a list of the small bugfixes and patches.

it will filter by needed patches normally, then you can choose unneeded or all patches as a filter method.

For the general patch fix this is a good way to update

Hi,

thank you for your reply

I dont’t have these buttons :frowning:
I use KDE 3.5 with Yast (german version) and there are no buttons like those in your screenshot. I think your package selector is a gnome version

This is not exactly the functionality that I mean… in version 10.3 you could sort all installed packages by “available” updates.
By using the filter, you have to select each package/program individually to look for changes. This method is better than nothing, but in previous versions there was much more “comfort”.

But thanks for your tips… it seems that this sorting has been removed from the current version… very bad

Go into YAST ->SYSTEM ->/etc/sysconfig editor ->System -> Yast2 -> GUI -> Wanted_GUI

change the selection to GTK and your yast will look like the screen shot.

But as you have indicated YAST seems to be broken. For example, If I select all packages, and then use the “update all in the list is newer version” and the use “Keep all in this list” the whole list is not acted upon. I have to do multiple iterations of the “Keep all…”.

Additionally, I used to be able to sort all of the updates to the top by the above procedure, but now when I say “keep all” the changes get sorted back.

I’m look for suggestions on how to return to the old behavior, I think it was better.

there’s no way do do a downgrade using yast gtk for example
