openSUSE 11 XDM won't load on boot after fresh install

Getting the following error on bootup:

Failed services in runlevel 5: earlyxdm xdm
Skipped services in runlevel 5: avahi-daemon avahi-dnsconfd

…after which it drops me to CLI login. Same thing happens when booting into failsafe mode.

PC Specs:
Asus P5Q3 Deluxe mobo
Intel Q6600
2 x 2GB G.Skill PI DDR3 RAM
Gigabyte 512MB 9800GT

The first time I installed it, the openSUSE repositories were still offline from the blackout, and it worked fine until they came back on and I updated all the packages. I wiped it and did a fresh install, but appear to have the exact same problem now.

Any ideas?

OK try this when you get to the CLI log on as root and type zypper ref to update the repos then zypper dup -l to update.
Then type exit and reboot.

Ok, updated all packages via zypper (there were a whole bunch), but no go. Noticed another error on boot:

/usr/bin/kdm: error while loading shared libraries: libXdmcp.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
startproc: exit status of parent of /usr/bin/kdm: 127 failed

The exact same error shows up a second time after the “setting up network interfaces” bit.

i got pretty much the same problem. when i load opensuse normal mode… it wont go into the gnome.
actually i thought it was because of the dual boot from windows but i formatted and tried it with a clean hd and it still wouldnt load.
it only loads in failsafe. tried installing kde3.5 too but same thing happened. after update still the same… any ideas?
