OpenSuSE 11 on the Eee PC 901 - What works, what doesn't

Hi all,

I recently became the proud owner of a bouncing baby Eee PC 901 but I’ve found the Xandros distro on it far too restrictive so I’m planning on installing SuSE on it. Before I do so however I was wondering what the support is like for it in terms of drivers and software. I’ve read up on installing SuSE on the Eee PC but there are a number of different views on how do it and what works and what doesn’t so I was hoping those who have installed OpenSuSE 11 on the 901 could contribute to a single thread about their experiences.

What I would like to know is what works, what doesn’t, and what does work kinda sorta for the following:-

  • ACPI
  • User and function buttons + Eee PC drivers (eg. “Super-Hybrid Engine” for overclocking/underclocking the atom + the ability to turn on/off WLAN and Bluetooth)
  • The built-in microphone
  • Are there multitouch touchpad drivers that work on SuSE?
  • Finally has anybody tried to compile Dr Eee for SuSE?

If anybody who’s installed OpenSuSE 11 on the 901 could share their knowledge it would be greatly appreciated - particularly what they consider to be the most straightforward way to install it.

Cheers,
Mark

I have read that Madrivia Spring 2008 installs very well.

Also many distros are now making Eee specific versions

I’ll be interested to know if anyone has tried Suse too. Sorry I have not.
