I’m a neophyte. I’m having difficulty accessing the internet in OpenSUSE 11. Heck, difficulty nothing – I just can’t access the internet. It doesn’t seem to see the ethernet card on my laptop. I have not been able to get the wireless to work either, in part cuz it wants to access online repositories, which I can’t do cuz I can’t access the internet even when I plug in directly (not wireless) by ethernet cable.
I’ve used Ubuntu on my HP Pavilion laptop, a dv52515us, and it recognizes my network card immediately. This is not a Ubuntu plug. I think I like OpenSUSE better, 'cept I can’t figure this one out. I just mention that to say that I know the card does work.
When I go to Hardware Information under YaST2, it does show the network card along with my wireless card. It describes the network card as a Realtek,RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (device identifier 98617). Under Drivers it lists two modules and says they are Active (also says “modprobe: Yes” but I don’t know what that means).
So I know it’s seeing something. But when I go under Network Devices, it doesn’t list it. It has icons only for DSL, ISDN, Modem and Network Settings.
Please help. I REALLY want to get this to work.
Thanks in advance,
Tesgin
