OpenSuse 11 Display Manager

What is the display manager that opensuse uses after the fresh installation? After the installation, I installed gnome-control which ended up messed up the display login.

It is not likely that the display manager in either kde or gnome will be your problem, but rather your graphics card/driver.
Please report your system stats

If you installed gnome only during the fresh install then it would have
been gdm. If you installed KDE as default then it would have been kdm.

Well, it seems like my graphic card is running fine since everyting else like compiz fusion, display, etc work fine. Anyhow, I was just wondering if opensuse customized the display manager. Thanks

I not currently using gdm, but it is possible that a rogue theme or custom configuration is causing problems for you. Are you able to login at all?

Have a look for ‘/etc/gdm/gdm.conf’ or similar.

Edit: If you can’t login via gdm, you could also try using xdm temporarily. Use the yast2 tool from runlevel 3 (console mode), and navigate to System > /etc/sysconfig Editor. Navigate to Desktop > Display Manager. Change the ‘DISPLAYMANAGER’ value to xdm.

Yep, I am able to log on and off fine but before it was messed up, the splash for the session was opensuse but now, it’s generic splash that says linux-gfx and it has this xwindow that cannot be closed. O and I’ll run rescue system to fix it but it’ll get messed up again but I don’t know what’s causing it

You are talking about window managers on one hand and splash screens on the other.

The problem you have is at the login? Yes?

You must have made some changes.

splash that says linux-gfx

Is this by any chance the random reference given by Suse at install
Under sysinfo: if you look at user: ‘yourusername’@linux-gfx ?

Yes, I’m talking about the log in screen. Haha, I must have… I just have no clue what…

I don’t know if it was a reference given during installation but that was the default hostname
