openSUSE 11,Configiring Kinternet for Ver. USB720

I did a fresh install of openSUSE 11 from the Live CD. My only internet connection is with a Verizon Wireless USB720.
When I go to: Yast, Network Devices, Modem… I get “NetworkManager is enabled. Some features, such as multiple providers for one modem, will not work. You may want to use Kinternet instead.”
I click “OK”, “Add” a modem. At “Modem Parameters”, “Modem Device” I do not see “/dev/ttyUSB1” as an option. This is where my USB720 is located, according to the Yast Hardware information. When I manualy enter “/dev/ttyUSB1” it will change back to “/dev/modem”.
How do I configure openSUSE 11 Live CD to work with Verizon USB720?

Swerdna has a excellent web page of help :-

Linux HOWTOs and Tutorials: Suse Linux 10.0, 10.1 openSUSE 10.2, 10.3, 11.0

Hope this can help you

I know the settings, I am posting this message in a laptop running 10.3 installed from the “10.3 install CD” and the “GM-Addons”.

I believe my problem is “openSUSE 11.0 Live CD” does not come with the necessary software to use the USB 720. I don’t know how to install the additional software without an internet connection which, I do not have on that machine.

Thanks, Scott

Still having problems:(

I’ve up graded to 11.1, installed: ppp, udev, smppd, wvdial, kinternet. Went to Yast-> System-> System Services and enabled smppd.

Setup using Yast with correct dial #, user, password. Using Kinternet it connects but I cannot access the Internet from a browser.

Here is the Kinternet log:

I like openSUSE but this is a real problem. Not being able to access the Internet. I have been using Puppy Linux because it works well with the USB720.

Any suggestions on getting this USB720 to work with openSUSE 11.1 will be greatly appreciated!!
