openSUSE 11 Autoupdates

Has there been an introduction of an easier method of ignoring updates? In 10.x it consisted of adding an entry to a file which I never was successful with. To be clear, I was successful at adding an entry to the file but, not getting the entry ignored.

Is there an easier way to do this yet?

I’m using KDE4 if that helps.

If you mean turning off the applet; right-click on the icon, click on Configure, and uncheck automatic start. To disable updates altogether, in YaST Software Repositories just disable the online updates repo. Automatic background updates are only done if “Automatic Online Update” in YaST is configured to do so.

I mean selectively ignoring updates. For instance, if you don’t want to update the kernel (for whatever reason) checking a box or something telling the auto updater to not report it as being available for updating.

I want the applet to run but, I don’t want it to sit there with the orange sprocket icon when I know the only update is something I don’t plan on updating.

I’m not aware of a way to do that with the applet. In the past I needed to screen the updates, so I turned off the applet and scheduled YaST Online Update to run once a week. There the default display is new patches, so the check is quick. All patches can be displayed, too, so you can go back and easily find/install a patch later if desired.
