OpenSUSE 11.4 RC1 can it be updated to real thing

Hi,

I need to reinstall a machine and I would like to go with 11.4 RC1. Will it support the official 11.4 repos when the real thing is available? Can I update the 11.4 RC1 to real 11.4 with zypper update or something like that?

Thank you beforehand for any comments.

Best Regards
Kari Laine

You know RC2 is out
or is it that you already have RC1

Update is possible once 11.4 is released

The Pros say it is best to do a fresh install when it goes gold.

In the mean time I am enjoying using the RC KDE versions.

Thanks for comment.

Yeah I noticed that RC2 is out. Thanks for pointing out.
Going to install RC2 today night…

Best Regards
Kari

I don’t >:-)

(and my 12 years of Linux experience entitle me to say that  )

Certainly.

You have to switch to the final repos and do a zypper dup.

Which repos would you add to make it the final version? Why doesn’t openSuse automatically detect the release candidate it out of date and offer to do the upgrade automatically?

You only have to wait for 10 days for the official release, unless the schedules has been pushed back.

The same ones you would use to install 11.4 normally.

Because.

If you leave the factory repos active, and do a dup after GM, your system
will be updated to 11.5 and beyond.

Factory continues life after 11.4 is released, you know. At one moment it
is the final 11.4, and a bit later it is 11.5 (Alpha) already. The devs
start pouring changes till it no longer work >:-P

So you’d better jump ship in time.

Ah, okay. I thought it was whatever you have when you’re installed, you’re sort of stuck with when 11.5 or 12 rolls out. It makes too much sense for me to think it’s so easy.
