openSUSE 11.4: No login sound in Gnome Desktop

I’m running openSUSE 11.4 32-bit. When I login to Gnome there is is no login sound. I was running 11.1 before and whenever I would login to Gnome I would hear a guitar login sound. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Many of us are finding that installing the pulse audio package ‘pavucontrol’ and then running pavucontrol to better tune one’s system sounds helps.

Control Centre > Sound > Sound Effects
Make sure the volume slider is about 70% along

I did what all of you suggested, but there is still no sound.

No sound where ? No sound with ANY application ? Only no login sound ?

When you say you did “all of you suggested”, EXACTLY what did you do ?

Maybe he means ONLY at login
It’s a bug I understand.
I never use login/out sound so I wouldn’t notice. But there are fixes listed somewhere here

I get sound but no login or logout sound. I did the following:

Package ‘pavucontrol’ is installed and volume is set to 100%

Control Centre > Sound > Sound Preferences
Make sure the volume slider is about 70% along

I’ve set this to 100%.

Question about libcanberra and system sounds

Well I am using Gnome under Fedora 14, and there is no apparent way to set login sounds or any system sound effects other than the default beep.

GNOME distributions like Fedora or Ubuntu, install the sound they logged in the System->Preferences->Startup Application

command :

/usr/bin/canberra-gtk-play --id="desktop-login" --description="GNOME Login"

try to change with :

/usr/bin/canberra-gtk-play --id="login" --description="GNOME Login"
