[opensuse 11.4] missing of /var/log/btmp prevent tty login

Greetings,

For those who could experience this issue: no way to log from CTRL-ALT-F1 to CTRL-ALT-F6 (full screen console).
The error message is “Error in the service module”.

Just try touch /var/log/btmp and then the issue is fixed.

See yuh !

what does that “no way to log from F1 to F6” mean? hmmmm, did you intend
to type “no way to log in” or “log on”??

hmmmmm, on my 11.4 i just logged in on Crtl+Alt+F1 and F6, so if you are
saying you could not then your system might be damaged in some way…

my /var/log/btmp has date over a year old and i have no trouble logging
in…so ??? so, are you speaking of some other kind of F1 to F6 log??

please explain.

…if you pressed ctrl-alt-f1 to f6, you couldn’t log in (even if login and password were correct)…
the issue was resolved once touch btmp has been done…

it seems that the fact that btmp was missing prevented any console log in with ctrl-alt-F1 to F6
