Hello,
I am a total newbie to Linux (I’ve only been using Ubuntu for a couple of months) and decided to buy openSUSE and give it a try.
So I inserted the disk into my computer and accept the terms of service and stuff and then it said that it failed to excecute bcdedit.exe. I’m trying to install openSUSE by Windows 7 by the way.
Please can someone help me? I’ve searched the forum and found a tutoiral, but it was for Windows XP which is totally different to Windows 7 and not even the application names are the same in the CP.
Thanks in advance… and please explain it very simply, 'cause I probably wont understand.
STOP
Don’t do it that way
You need to boot from the DVD/CD
Install openSUSE alongside Win7/Vista - A Guide
Is there a more simple way?
All I want to do is install openSUSE alongside Windows, and I barely got any of that tutorial and don’t want to burn more disks just to install openSUSE.
You must boot the CD/DVD, not run the in windows installer.
The installer will automatically set things up for you.
BUT! The way many vendors ship their computers with windows7/vista today, is in such a way that will prevent you from installing other OS’s.
If you don’t understand that guide, I would suggest you start learning. Linux is not windows and requires at least some understanding of how a computer works.
Basically I would need to know how many partitions your HD is divided in to ATM.
The easiest way to get that is with a Linux Live CD or Parted Magic, open a terminal and get the result of:
fdisk -l
As shown in the guide
