Opensuse 11.4 Hybrid graphics driver issue

Hi to all, this is my first post in here. Im having trouble trying to install the video drivers on my hybrid graphics laptop HP 7014nr, i7 3610QM(intel hd 4000 graphics), nvidia geforce gt 650m on opensuse 11.4.
First, I tried to install the nvidia driver from Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers on level 3 (according to the
hard way driver install guide), but then it couldnt get to the GUI, due to the No devices detected, No screens found error. I tried to
modify manually the xorg.conf file with no success.
Then, I uninstalled the nvidia drivers to get to the gui again, since there is no enable/disable nvidia or intel graphics option from the BIOS,
I suppose I have a muxless laptop, and that I need to install the intel drivers first. From Yast, it says i have the intellegacy and intel drivers installed,
but from the hwinfo --gfx card command I get no information about the intel driver that is active.
When I force it to use intel/intellegacy drivers I get again the No devices detected, No screens found error.

I have also looked for the intel drivers that support intel hd 4000 graphics from intel website and I tried to install the first drivers that supported
intel 4000(https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads/2012/12.07-intel-graphics-stack-release) but im unable to install it on opensuse 11.4 .

I have to mention, my goal is to run an application that requires 24 bit true color.

This is my actual hwinfo --gfxcard output

Have you checked this out before? Bumblebee - NVIDIA Optimus support for Linux!

Thank You,

That looks as a new laptop, but openSUSE 11.4 is too old. You need to
read about evergreen if you insist on using that version. Otherwise, try
with openSUSE 12.3 instead - and read what jdmcdaniel3 wrote.

Thanks for the replies. Im reading about bumblebee and evergreen at the moment.
Just to mention I managed to get the application that I needed to work by just setting the vesa driver in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-device.conf,
it even configured the screen at 1920x1080, but the intel driver still not loaded.

neither hybrid graphics and GT650 were available when 11.4 was new
(two years ago)…

additionally, normal support for 11.4 ended in November of last year…

strongly suggest you install a more modern and supported version
(currently that would be either 12.2 or 12.3)

anyway, you won’t find many around here with your level of advanced
system who are also running out-of-date software and can help you by
trying their prescriptions on their own machine (or can remember back
two years ago when . . .)

I suppose you would need a later distro to fully support the HD4000, but more important is you need to take control over the Nvidia card. Even if Bumblebee still is rather experimental the bbswitch module works well. Bbswitch is the module that powers down the Nvidia card when not in use. If you do nothing the Nvidia card is powered on all the time and as you can’t load a driver to control it it will run without any power control. Examples have been posted in this forum where the powersaving was around 25 W and that’s a lot of heat inside a laptop, something they are not designed to stand in the long run
