Opensuse 11.4 freezes regularly

I have been using Opensuse 11.4 for the past 3 months and for the past 2 weeks the system freezes regularly due to multiple errors.

Iam using Kernel 2.6.27.6-0.7-desktop under KDE4 with regular updates

Errors 1 & 2 occured during Normal mode

Aug 28 15:11:52 linux kernel: 1153.000036] render error detected, EIR: 0x00000010
Aug 28 15:11:52 linux kernel: 1153.000036] [drm:i915_report_and_clear_eir] ERROR EIR stuck: 0x00000010, masking
Aug 28 15:11:52 linux kernel: 1153.000036] render error detected, EIR: 0x00000010

Aug 28 15:15:31 linux kernel: 1372.320779] [drm:intel_prepare_page_flip] ERROR Prepared flip multiple times
then i switched to failsafe mode wtih nomodeselect after which i did not receive the first 2 errors.

Then the system freezed randomly for the below errors.

  1. Aug 28 14:26:42 linux kernel: 395.456047] tracker-extract[5264]: segfault at 55d07c ip b728ea31 sp bfc0880c error 4 in libc-2.11.3.so[b721c000+166000]

  2. Sep 1 00:46:58 linux kernel: 903.662378] packagekitd[11931]: segfault at 8145fb8 ip 08145fb8 sp b5b65e4c error 15

Iam not sure whether the above errors are really bugs (or) problems with my hardware

any help would be of great help

Thanks,

Are you running KDE or Gnome?
After recent upgrade to KDE47, I am also seeing sporadic lockups/freezes.

I am running
Linux 2.6.37.6-0.7-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT 2011-07-21 02:17:24 +0200 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I have been unable to find any useful diagnostics as yet.

Are the messages you posted found in /var/log/messages or ?

I’ve had similar problems, (maybe not identical), lockups, usb memory hickups and high CPU useage, usb mouse stalls.
These all disappears after the following,

–deleted proload & preload-kmp-XXXXXX
–upgraded to Tumbleweed
–upgraded kernel to 3.0.0

my system is now very responsive and very stable.

OS: Linux 3.0.3-42-desktop x86_64
Current user: michael@linux-qz4c
System: openSUSE 11.4 (x86_64)
KDE: 4.7.00 (4.7.0) “release 10”

Iam running KDE4.6.3 release 4 and all messages are from /var/log/messages and iam yet to find a bug report filed for this.

Did you file the bug report yet? I am getting tonnes of segmentation faults, and I think that the kernel may be buggy. Here is the link to relevant parts of my messages log:

SegmentationFaults - f53d74

Nice to know if anyone found a way out!

hi there - i also run into various issues

any chance to get rid of this annoying bugs while doing a quick upgrade to 12.xy beta ?
