I have been noticing that openSUSE and many other Linux distributions are not rendering fonts as the way they should be.The fonts are rather fuzzy.I wish it was lot a crispier as like in Windows or Mac.
Is there any solution to that?

The basic solution is to change the font, to something you like. You can actually borrow fonts from your Windows installation, if you have one (c: \windows\fonts or perhaps /windows/c/windows/fonts). You should look at anti-aliasing, sub-pixel rendering and hinting style, all in the same place where you change your fonts. In KDE that would be:
menu / Personnel Settings / Application Appearance / Fonts
to add fonts for system usage in KDE go to:
menu / Personnel Settings / Font Installer
Let us know if you need any thing else.
Thank You,
Thank You,
I have already tried that.I have a LED screen. Is that the cause?

Well, if there were something wrong with it then, but I doubt the monitor is the cause. I do two thhings myself. One, I use an nVIDIA video card and I load their proprietary video driver. Second, I have been selection a Windows Font called SergioUI which seems to work pretty well. Beyond these two things, I am not sure what else to suggest to you.
Thank You,
I’m going to agree with the OP; linux does not render fonts as crisply as windows. I’m not sure what the reason is, but it’s just so. I use window fonts with nvidia drivers, anti-aliasing, sub-pixel hinting, but it’s doesn’t appear as crisp as windows. It appears more obvious on laptops; my desktop renders fonts ok, but my laptop fonts suck…
You need to change the libfreetype packages to some others which give you the “patented” subpixel hinting.
There are two of them, which i have used and tried on my laptop.
from the muzlocker repo (Index of /repositories/home:/muzlocker/openSUSE_11.4). His config is taken from ubuntu’s freetype changes and work well.
Second is inp3dance (Index of /repositories/home:/inp3dance/openSUSE_11.4).
Switch the packages to either of the above. And then go on from there. Presently i use the second repo, with Full hinting, rgb style in kde 4.6 11.4.
Also check out the changes you need to do in Firefox from this site. SubpixelHinting - openSUSE Community Wiki
Hope this helps you.
I made a simple guide to use MUZLOCKER fonts and correct the font rendering in Firefox.
openSUSE starter: Step 4. Get yer subpixel hinted fonts.
Have fun!
Thanks. I’ll try your suggestions.
Tried it and works great! Thank you.
