OpenSuSe 11.4 failed to get installed in VirtualBox 4.0.4r70112 version on HP G62 laptop

Hello,

Tried to install OpenSuSe 11.4 x86 version in virtualbox but it failed. After extracting kernel saw chameleon screen and nothing happened even after a while. Tried to change processor settings but same issue.

My laptop config > HP G62, Intel Core i3 M370 2.40 Ghz processor, ATi Radeon HD 5470 graphics, 4 gb ram

Any1 had similar problems?

Amey.

I have installed several versions of 11.4 in VM under VirtualBox 4.0.4. What is
the host OS?

When you clear the bootsplash screen, where does it hang?

It has Windows 7 home premium OS as host OS.
OpenSuSe hangs at loader exactly after kernel extraction step.
I tried to press “Esc” key to see where it’s stuck but it was unable to show me back ground process.

Hello all
I’m reinstalling openSUSE while I write this message. I’m having the same issue when I try to install openSUSE 11.4 Live KDE on VirtualBox:

Here is my setup:
VirtualBox 4.0.4 r70112 on
Dell Studio XPS 1647
core i5
windows 7 pro 64 (fresh install)
4gb ram

Today I have a little bit of luck, I have reached the stage of installing the files, BUT… it got stuck when it was copying root “filesystem” (7%)… I have also erased all previous openSUSE installation files before trying new installation again…
Yesterday it was worse…
I have checked also the ISO’s md5 and it is correct…

Any clue what it could be happening? I didn’t have issues installing 11.3…
Should I try with the full 4.7GB DVD instead? I guess so…

Thanks

ok
after downloading the openSUSE-11.4-DVD-x86_64.iso, same problem occurred, but this time it hangs at the formatting partitions process. The load of prior stages are much faster though.
:frowning:
well, I will keep up trying with different configurations.

I tried a different linux distro(LinuxMint 10) to discard any possibility of having problems with Linux installs and I could install it without any issue. With openSUSE 11.4, I tried two different isos and many changes in virtualbox configuration machine, nothing worked…

Hello,

I’m having the same problem. Can’t get openSUSE 11.4 installed on vm with VirtualBox 4.04. I’m running XP SP3 32 on a HP i7 laptop. The VM has 2048 gb of allocated memory. It hangs after the kernel extraction. I’ve just installed an other Linux distribution which went just fine.

Cheers.
Yann

No problem here with Virtualbox running on an openSUSE host. Anything in the logs? Is the guest 32 or 64bit?
