I have a dell inspiron 560. I have downloaded openSUSE 11.4 GNOME 32 & 64 bit and also KDE in 32 & 64 bit versions.
My problem comes when i try to boot my desktop on any of the openSUSE versions that i have burnt, here is what happens.
Boot from CD
Loads Grub Menu
I select to do a LIVE boot
Then my screen goes crazy (black for ~10 sec. then is full of different color pixels (like a damaged dvd movie)
But i can boot either of the CDs on my lappy and everything goes perfect.
If any additional information is needed, feel free to request it and i will supply.

Could be a video problem. Before you select the kernel to load you have a chance to enter a kernel loading option. Try and enter the kernel load option nomodeset, then press the enter key and see if that allows you to proceed.
Well, it may not help you as there seem to be quite a few users reporting 11.4 start up problems and having ATI graphics. Also switchable graphic cards may not be supported. Anyway I will have to leave that for those with ATI Radeon graphics hardware, I’m sure they will try to help you. Also you could use the forum search with your model of card to see if anyone got it working on 11.4.
One more question, If I was to remove the PCI GPU could I install openSUSE, then once it is installed, re-install the PCI GPU with correct drivers (given that there are drivers for my model) ?
Well done. That’s good news. My online upgrades to 11.4 have produced better results than one using the DVD iso and one using a liveCD, but both of those were on older hardware.
