OpenSuse 11.3 - will you use btrfs?

I am just wondering how many will use this new filesystem and their main filesystem?

So far i am not fixed to any. Currently i have ext3, but btrfs might be a nice option.

So, will you use it?

No, as it will probably be buggy as all heck.

I’m using it for my home directory in 11.3 RC1 on a virtual machine, so far nothing bad has happened, but I haven’t done much with the home directory either.
It’s not the reading to be worried about, it’s the writing.

mm… now i am confused.
Since it will have a warning at installation, i might skip it. I don’t want to risk my data’s really.
Unless i know its save. The specs are nice though.

Very tempting, but I think I’ll probably pass this time around. Maybe for 12.0.

Is my understanding correct that btrfs is comparable to zfs?

Somewhat, but it is also from what I gather btrfs is to replace ext4 in the future.
Here is some benchmark data on it: [Phoronix] Where The Btrfs Performance Is At Today](Where The Btrfs Performance Is At Today - Phoronix)
I’ve also read on the same site somewhere that it’s had some nasty performance regressions in the past.

Another new file system? No, thank you. I’ll wait until it’s been around long enough for users to get experienced with it.

exactly. it’ll be good for experimental (=just for fun of trying some cutting edge solutions) use but not to store my valuable data.

Exactly, but may be fun to fool around with if you have the extra drive to spare.

Old but interesting:
A short history of btrfs [LWN.net]

I am just now trusting ext4 to hold all that is precious to me. I haven’t seen that much of a performance increase over ext3. I am not one to experiement with file systems cuz if I lose data, I am crying and it’s not pleasent for anyone to see a grown man cry.

I am willing to try btrfs out. I believe it is going to be the default standard in the future so why not upgrade and take the risk now?

So far no one tried it i assume.
Mm… i might give it a shot with the next release. Or once it becomes dependable.

I read your link. Interesting.
Also recommented the heise.de link.

It looks like that this will be the future filesystem in Linux. I am convinced that i will use it with the next release and new kernel.
It does have a lot of advantages over the current filesystems and it can get only better.
