Installation from DVD load the Linux Kernel to 100% and then system freeze, black screen left, nothing happens any longer. Is this a known problem?
Specifications:
Upgrade from openSUSE 11.2
Laptop HP Compaq 615
If you need more specifications, I’ll try to write it.
If you type “nomodeset” in the initiall DVD boot menu, does it make any difference, help?
Did you conduct the md5sum check on this DVD prior to burning? (or do you know what that means) ? Apologies as I don’t know your Linux level and I don’t mean to ask a question too basic, nor too advanced.
The checksum was ok. I’ve already upgraded another PC without any problems.
I’ve tried the “nomodeset” but it’s still the same.
Could it be that this is a graphics problem?
thanks for the help. The problem is solved.
I’ve selected the option ‘Rescue System’, stepped through and installed 3 additional files, and now it’s running.

Hi, same problem here. System stops (usually back screen) during boot sequence after the message: shpchp 0000:00:01.0: Cannot reserve MMIO region
It gives the code for the bridge on the PCI bus if I interpret the cryptic part correctly. It can boot with ACPI=off (but no battery etc.), it mostly boots with nolapic.
In addition the kernel does not recognize the 2nd CPU! Problems were the same as with 11.2. 11.1 is fine.
