OpenSuse 11.3 Unable to configure the network card because kernel device is not present

Whenever I configure my 82578DC onboard Intel Gigabit Network card and restart my machine I see two cards in YAST when my machine reboots: One mapped to eth0 without a kernel module listed and one not mapped to a device with the correct e1000e kernel module that says it isn’t configured. I delete the one mapped to eth0 and configure the other one with the kernel module. When I restart I get the same problem, but sometimes it works. The install disk is sound and I have the packman repository listed in software repositories, as was suggested in another thread. I can’t get the card to stay configured to eth0 and the kernel module and stay set between reboots. Any suggestions?

My lspci dump is:

Please post output of :
**cat /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules **

It is empty.

-=WELCOME=- new poster!! but, this thread is over a year old…and, you
are not the original thread starter…

i find it difficult to believe you have exactly the same problem with
exactly the same hardware, and exactly the same output from “lspci
-nnk” as did tinman24601 in September of 2010…so, why are you
posting here?

are you running openSUSE 11.3? it is past its end of life…

if you are running 11.4 or 12.1 please post your problem symptoms and
hardware info in a new thread…

if it is a network configuration problem please post to the networking
forum…

and again, welcome!!

That file had a different name in 11.3. As I recall, it was
persistent-network.rules. If that file is not there, post the output of ‘ls
/etc/udev/rules.d/’.
