openSUSE 11.3 'Teal' problem. No GUI.

I recently installed openSUSE 11.3 from a magazine I got. I installed it using VMware player (and tried it in VirtualBox 3.2.8 too) in my Windows 7 ultimate desktop.
I selected a KDE desktop during installation.
Here is my PC config: Intel Core 2 Duo E7400, Zotac Geforce 9800GT 512MB synergy, 4GB DDR2 ram, 1080p monitor 23 inch, 500GB HDD.
openSUSE config: 1024MB base memory, 21 mb video memory etc.

Here is what I get:

Welcome to openSUSE 11.3 “Teal” - Kernel 2.6.34-12-default (tty1)

linux-474t login: kaushik
Have a lot of fun…
kaushik@linux-474t:~> startx
no startx installed

Please help me!

Does it find the ‘startkde’ command? Try that instead.

What is the result of:

which startx

which startkde

As a rough guess, you need to install either kde or gnpme.
You can do this by logging in as root at the console and typing yast.
This will give you the gtk version of yast.

kaushik@linux-474t:~> startkde
$DISPLAY is not set or cannot connect to the X server
kaushik@linux-474t:~> which startkde
kaushik@linux-474t:~>which startx
which: no startx in (/home/kaushik/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin/X11:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/lib/jvm/jre/bin)
