opensuse 11.3 rc1 multimedia mini guide

Have spent a hour today installing the multimedia packages for opensuse 11.3 rc1 and thought that I would make some notes in case it was of help for anyone else. Most of the 11.2 rpm’s from the packman website will work with 11.3 and there are a number of packages built for 11.3 in the packman factory repo.

MPlayer is available from:-

Index of /pub/linux/packman/suse/factory

Xine is available from:-

Index of /pub/linux/packman/suse/factory

(these packages include the necessary support for amarok to play mp3 music files)

K3b is available from:-

Index of /pub/linux/packman/suse/11.2

(the version from the 11.2 repo works fine)

VLC is available from:-

Index of /pub/linux/packman/suse/factory

(this has been added today - the 11.2 rpm’s do not appear to work with 11.3 rc1)

kde3-K3b is available from:-

Index of /pub/linux/packman/suse/11.2

(the version from the 11.2 repo works fine)

libdvdcss is available from here:-

Index of /pub/videolan/vlc/SuSE/11.3/

(best not to use any of the other rpm packages from here as they can conflict with the packman rpm’s)

xxms is avilable from here:-

Index of /pub/linux/packman/suse/factory

(I did have to install some libs from the main opensuse 11.2 oss repo - as the rpm appears to have been compiled linked to older versions of the library files)

audiokonverter is available from:-

Index of /pub/linux/packman/suse/11.2

(the version from the 11.2 repo works fine)

devede is available from:-

Index of /pub/linux/packman/suse/11.2

(the version from the 11.2 repo works fine)

kino is available from:-

Index of /pub/linux/packman/suse/11.2

(the version from the 11.2 repo works fine)

k9copy is available from:-

Index of /pub/linux/packman/suse/11.2

(the version from the 11.2 repo works fine)

winfff is available from:-

Index of /pub/linux/packman/suse/11.2

(the version from the 11.2 repo works fine)

I get the following error message when trying to add the Packman Factory repo (all mirrors give the same message):

http://www.imagebam.com/image/4ebe2a85154726

11.2 Packman repos seem to work fine. Is it safe to proceed?

works ok here:-

server name:-

packman.iu-bremen.de

directory on server:-

/suse/factory

Yep, this is OK to proceed. AFAIK this is because it’s not an official repo, it’s more of a service Packman provides to testers of the coming openSUSE version, and developpers/testers running Factory.

Thanks for the reply. My multimedia files are working well on 11.3 with the factory Packman repos.
