I had Kubuntu 64-bit installed and decided to try OpenSUSE instead as I was having problems getting the audio to work on Skype.
After installing OpenSUSE 11.3 (64-bit), I do not have network connectivity (Ethernet or Wireless)? Neither adapter can be detected?
I thought the install would be fairly straightforward as Kubuntu 64-bit detected all the hardware.
So, when you say that neither was detected, what do you base that on? Do you in fact have a wireless network or a wired network and did you try both? Normally, for a wired network, using the ifup method is all that is required. When using a wireless network, we often suggest using the Network Manager and that if using KDE, load the KWALLET for maintaining your wireless password. To determine your network setup, start YaST / Network Devices / Network Settings. This is where you elect to use ifup or Network Manager. I have posted a script file that can obtain a lot of information about your setup you could post here in a code block in the advanced message editor. Here is the thread. Use the last (most recent) version of netinfo. There is also another useful script there called blip.

So it seems you have both wired and wireless adapters. Which connection are you trying to use? Did you go into YaST as suggested before to look at your networking setup? Did you activate the Network Manager or are you still using ifup?

The network adapters were activated after I ran YAST2 Network Settings and it initialised the network configuration. I then switched to using kNetworkManager as suggested by jdmcdaniel3. I was able to configure my wireless network and that worked fine.
After rebooting the computer, the wireless adapter did not enable automatically? I tried rebooting the computer a few more times however, the Enable Wireless option was still greyed out.
I did tick the ‘Connect automatically’ option in kNetworkManager against my wireless connection.
It seems, every time I want to use either network connection (Ethernet/Wireless), I have to launch kNetworkManager?
So knetworkmanager is supposed to launch automatically for you, but you can add it as being auto started. Go to menu / Personnel Settings / Advanced Tab / Autostart. Select Add program on the top right and enter the command: knetworkmanager
You should be able to just log out and back in to see if this is going to help.
