I’m experiencing random lockups. There are 2 types.
1st time this happened when I enabled Kwin compositing effects. The screen turned black and it froze, the mouse pointer froze. Nothing would move. 5 Minutes later I just hard reset the Laptop. I was afraid something could be corrupted as it was shutdown in a bad way. On boot up Kwin’s compositing effects were in place.
Randomly working on the laptop, everything will freeze except the mouse pointer. This happens like once in a while though.
I have a feeling this has something to do with my Dell Studio 1555 Intel GM4500 MHD graphics.
Some people are having trouble - especially Intel users. Though myself an Intel user, I have not had the problems.
Turn effects OFF and also the same for screensaver.

nooo!!! I will miss the desktop cube and the snow effects. =(
Not having the problem myself I can’t confirm. But I suspect Gnome may not have the problem. I use both Desktops in 11.3 on the same install and both work well. I have a feeling it’s a kde issue as I have seen nvidia users report similar issues and I have a 11.3 box with a nvidia graphics and I had to switch effects off. Gnome worked better so I decided to use Gnome on there.
I have to agree. I installed gnome about 2 weeks ago. Had for 1 week duration. I never had a hangup even with Compiz enabled. and with the Options installed from Repo
When I overinstalled with KDE. Hangups came up as soon as I enabled Kwin.
That will be changed with a bugfix coming in September.
