opensuse 11.3 install-----saving bootloader config 96% halt

I want to install opensuse 11.3, and I get a newer computer to install it(X64), but every time I install, I have been stop at “saving bootloader config” (96%). I have waited for a long time, but no use. If someone can tell me why. Thanks!

Do you get any error message like here? (Install Problem - Bootloader . . . HELP !)

that could be caused by a faulty install disk, did you:

  1. get your install image from http://software.opensuse.org/113/en ?
    (if not, then where?)
  2. check the md5sum of the downloaded iso?
  3. burn as slow as you can
  4. do this http://tinyurl.com/yajm2aq before install attempt?

if you answered “no” (or “don’t know”) to any of those then do step 4
now, and if it has errors see the following cites before you start over:
http://en.opensuse.org/Download_Help
http://tinyurl.com/yhf65pv
http://tinyurl.com/ycly3eg

if your install disk checks out perfect, then…i just read this in
another thread, it might be your problem, if so let is know…if
not, let us know:

In order to install 11.3 on a DualVista Asrock 939 board you have to
deactivate the high precision event timer (HPET) in the Bios of the
machine under ACPI. Once the installation will be terminated, HPET may
be safely reactivated without any further nuisance. The installation
ran through without problem, up to the very end.

Hi,
I think my image has no problem. I install my image in another old computer, and it success.
I think BIOS will be an question, since my computer is very new and i don’t know if opensuse can support(both opensuse 11.0 and 11.3 can not be installed in my new computer). Another question is partition. But I am not sure. If anyone can help me, thanks.

read in this forum thread:

http://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php?t=443154

about how he beat the install halt by turning off (in the BIOS) the
high precision event timer (HPET) befor the install, and then turn it
back on when the install is finished…

I have check BIOS, and it is disable already.

When I install Opensuse 11.1 in my computer, it success. But when I
reboot computer, it said “miss system…”, maybe computer can not find
the bootloader(Grub).
my harddisk is 500GB, and I try to install my system below 128GB…but no use.
ai…I have to use old computer now.

Same problem with me; It says it can install because of the 128 GB limit - something - halts at 96% during bootloader installation

This also was a concern for me, on install it seemed to stop a long time at this point (96%), but I was patient and eventually it continued.

I left it through the night, it just stops at 96% and the computer hangs

I have to do restart the computer using the powerbutton

I’m using acer aspire ao521 - AMD k125 processor and ATI hd 4225 serries graphics card

Hello everyone

I have a major problem installing opensuse 11.3 on my computer( hp pavilion dv6)
I downloaded openSUSE-11.3-GNOME-LiveCD-x86_64 from software.opensuse.org: Download openSUSE 11.3 and made a live usb
I’m a newbie at using linux infact i never used another operating system beside windows. Now i have installed windows 7 (on c disk 100gb)
My first problem when i am trying to install opensuse is that he dosn’t automatic choose to make my partitions so i have to do it manualy.
I was searching how to make it the best way so i desited to make 4 partitons one for ’ /boot’ one for ’ / 'one for ‘/home’ and a swap partition/
In windows7 i made 4 new partitons

3:10 gb for /boot
4:10 gb for/
5:70 gb for /user
6:10 gb for /swap

My first question is :Is this right to make 4 paritions in windows (opensuse can’t format or resize my partitions it just can edit it ) so it’s my only way to make partitions

My second question is how to change the bootloader configurtation because everytime when ii try to install opensuse it stops at about 96% and it says to reconfigure the bootloader options.

If i skip this i get the folowing message

Hey samir_him, welcome here.

Please start a new thread, instead of picking up an old one. Your problem IMHO is different from the one here, you may not get the attention you’re after. In the new thread, create a clear title.
One thing for now: creating the partitions from Windows is not the way to do this.

I am sorry if this is not the right thread for my question but can anyone tell me why does the instalation always restarts when i click on sda (when i cllick ones on sda it shows me what my drives are sda1 sda2 … and when i cklick the second time on sda it restarts and i get the following message)

http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/9519/screenshotexpertpartiti.png

i get the following error
