openSUSE 11.3 I have finally cracked it.

After the buggy disappointment that was Ubuntu 10.04, I switched to Fedora, an excellent distro. However I got bored and wanted to try something new. openSUSE had just come out, so that was that.

To my surprise my ATI Radeon worked out of the box. Both Fedora and Ubuntu needed that nomodeset setting in GRUB. Now due to my roots (Gnome based Ubuntu and Fedora) I don’t like KDE so I decided to install Gnome. Erghhh a horrid presentation of Gnome in openSUSE. After a few tweeks I got it how I like it. Now openSUSE is my main distro now. I look forward to Gnome 3. I’ll just leave you with a screenshot of how Gnome looks like for me now.

Well done for that and for your perseverance.

It was a challenge, but I enjoy messing about and learning.

Curious, why do you have the menu bar (the three menu choices; applications, places and system) AND the “computer” openSUSE Menu too?

Recently there was an article about the top 5 Gnome menus. I didn’t even know there WERE so many to choose from. I’m thinking of giving one a try, but now I have to find the article again.
