openSUSE 11.3 : DVD menu missing repair tools for the installed system

Hi

It used to be that the dvd menu offered an option to “repair the installed system”.
THis was really very convenient.

The openSUSE 11.3 dvd for x86 now only gives a “system rescue” option which leads to command line directly.

Where have been “the repair the installed system” tools ?
How can we access them now ?

What is a reasonable set of tips that’s supposed to be used after logging into “system rescue” ?

Thanks

Hi, I’m having trouble with an upgrade to 11.3. All installed but it won’t boot. So if you find an answer to the above can you please let me know.

We should probably to take that to bugzilla

EDIT
Strike that.
Yast Repair is dead.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=591832

Indeed.
This is how it looked in 11.2

And 11.3

I’m using susestudio to build system resuce disk.

hi

yast repair is dropped : why ? (maybe to difficult to maintain ?)

avenuemax:
Could you please tell us what you do in suse studio to have the repair tools available ?

How do you access suse studio ? (i requested an invitation months ago but still received no way to access the site )

In susestudio select live cd or similar, go to parted magic, gparted or systemrescue cd sites, mark the names of their programms and do a search for additional packages from susestudio, add those packages and your done. I applied and received an invite in minutes, please try again and do check your spam folder after an hour or so.

I am frightened to Death by absence of “Boot Installed System”
and absence of “Repair Installed System” now that I have upgraded
to openSUSE 11.3

  • have now got Invitation & access to SuSEstudio

. . . I see NO Template for 11.3 . . . could you please guide me
with step-by-step instructions What-to-Do ??

thank you for your help

anna

Hi

i’ll ask suse studio antoher invite

Could you please unfold ?
"mark the names of their programms " :
do you mean you want to add system rescue to suse studio ?

“and do a search for additional packages from susestudio” :
additional packages apart from system rescue or linked with it ?

Thanks

What is the name of the packages that used to be used ?

ok what are the packages you add as important to you ?
You can’t reproduce system rescue entirely for example ?

Yes, it was dropped as a boot option in the DVD because, if my memory is right, it was broken beyond
repair and no people went forward to maintain and test it. Pity.

You can find the story in the factory list, I think.

There is, however, the yast repair module, once the system is running.

SuSE Studio

can you please explain where I can find Template for
SuSE 11.3 ??

thanks
anna

it looks like there is none so far, but 11.2 is quite similar, i guess suse studio will be updated soon

@ Carlos E. R.
“the yast repair module, once the system is running.”
how do you use this ?

is there a way to have it back in the dvd menu easily ? ( for a broken system, easier than burning a suse studio appliance or system rescue live cd)

That’s a good question. The rpm is “yast-repair”, but I don’t know how to start it.

None. It is a different thing.
I recommend you look up the thread in the factory list where this was reported.

I concur.
This was main reason I used OpenSUSE as from Live CD I could fix things easily!

Should there not then be a possible “RESCUE SUSE”, CD to download and burn for those not so competent in command line?

Also how do you boot into rescue at log in? I try my root log in and password no effect, normal user log in and password no effect . stuck at log in cursor. NO help given to suggest a possible log in name /password to get into system?

Can you help Thanks in advance.

Request to OpenSuSE :

  1. for Boot Installed System

  2. for Re-Install Boot-Loader

PLEASE, OpenSuSE, do provide a basic REPAIR downloadable DVD ?? !!

thanks
anna

Don’t know why you ask here. Nobody here but a bunch of users.

You need to ask that at Openfate , but as repairing this tool has been there since a long time without any ressource to take it in charge i doubt this will change a lot .
There’s a lack of ressource to handle things out.
