OpenSUSE 11.3 - Dell Latitude D610 - PCMCIA devices not supported.

I receive the following error when inserting a Sierra Wireless AC595 EVDO card into the PCMCIA card slot on a Dell Latitude D610 :

Aug 17 19:20:40 zhig6 kernel: 1537.367036] pcmcia_socket pcmcia_socket0: cardbus cards are not supported.

This machine has successfully run Fedora 7 through 13 without issues. I have used this EVDO card since Fedora 9.

So… how the deuce do I get my PCMCIA adapter working again? :open_mouth:

So I used to use a dell latitude d610, I had it for Four Long Years as a lease at work. This was the first computer of ANY KIND that I loaded Linux on. This Laptop had built-in Wireless which I did get to work with openSUSE 10.0 through 11.1, though I had to use the Windows driver file and NDIS wrapper as I recall. None the less, it did work for me. I never tried to use any PCMCIA card, but all of the cards I had were for serial, parallel and RS485 devices and no network cards at all. Have you attempted to get the built-in Wireless to work with openSUSE? Unfortunately, I never loaded openSUSE 11.2 on it and 11.3 was not out when I got rid of it last year. I will say that it was a real road warrior for me all of those many years.

Thank You,

James, thanks for responding to the thread. As I type this, I am utilizing the EVDO card on an identical Dell Latitude D610 running Fedora 13 that is current as of five minutes ago.

Hopefully someone else can parse through all this… it’s got to be something simple that my mind is passing right over.

I don’t think so. There is a thread in the Wireless Forum where a Cardbus device
works with kernel 2.6.32, but not with openSUSE 11.3 with its 2.6.34 kernel.
From what I can tell, this is a kernel bug, not a configuration problem. Until
it it reported and properly documented in the kernel bugzilla, it is unlikely to
be fixed. It may, in fact, have been reported and fixed, just not yet backported
to the openSUSE kernel. You might try either the Kernel Of The Day (KOTD) or a
2.6.35 kernel.

lwfinger, Thanks for the heads up. I’ll start doing some digging in that thread and on the LKML.

Cheers,
