OpenSUSE 11.2 or 11.3 for Celeron M laptop?

Hi,

I am running 11.2 on my Toshiba laptop with Celeron M CPU and 2 GB RAM. Should I fresh install 11.3?

Thanks in advance.

There should be no problem with that kind of hardware. I have 11.3 on a 5 year old laptop with 1.6GHz processor and 1GB RAM. The question really is how much do you want 11.3 improvements. If you are happy and productive with 11.2, it will still be supported for a while so there’s no rush to update.

I have a Toshiba laptop Celeron M with 512mb ram. At this point 11.2 works better than 11.3 on this laptop. I had zero problems with 11.2 but I so far have 2 problems with 11.3:

  1. It freezes without nomodeset kernel option.

  2. My wireless card became unusable. It won’t keep a steady connection and it takes ages for sites to load, if ever. It affects all browsers and it’s not a dns or ipv6 problem. I think something got screwed up with ath5k.

I found a workaround for my wireless problem over in Ubuntu land. I had to add the nohwcrypt option to ath5k. Now my browser is faster than ever. I added the option in Yast > Network Settings.
