[OpenSUSE 11.2(Gnome)]Sound Not Working

My laptop is Acer 1681WLMi and I have trying my sound to work for about two weeks now…

My sound card is

82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller

and i have done the instructions on this page:

[SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE](http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:AudioTroubleshooting)

up to step 2.

The reason why I cannot go furthur is maybe it can cause problems to my system.
**
here are the results of my step 2:**

YAST > HARDWARE > SOUND > OTHER > TEST and test your sound.

–no sound comes out of speakers (both left and right)

YAST > HARDWARE > SOUND > OTHER > VOLUME and move your PCM and Master Volume up to about 75% and test your sound.

–when i do this, all i can see is this :

Screenshot
There are no Controllers and Sliders seen.

YAST > HARDWARE > SOUND and select your audio card and delete it (which deletes the configuration, not the card). Then add the card, and configure the card. Test your sound.

–here is what happens :

Screenshot-1
I open YAST>>HARDWARE>>SOUND

Screenshot-2
I delete my sound card configuration.

Screenshot-3
The configuration is deleted.

Screenshot-4
I edit the configuration of the sound card.

Screenshot-5
An error shows up, then I abort and cancel all changes, thinking it might damage the system.

***Here is the error the shows up:

The Kernel Module snd-intel8x0 for sound support could not be loaded. This can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.

So what should I do??

–I successfully installed alsa-firmware and rebooted, and nothing changed.

I recommend you select the “normal” setup and NOT the quick. In the “normal” setup, accept all default values. ie don’t innovate.

With root permissions delete the file /etc/modprobe.d/50-sound.conf and then try again.

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT, put a copy of the 50-sound.conf by ANY name in the /etc/modprobe.d directory. Put no BACKUPS in that directory. NONE! Let YaST create a new /etc/modprobe.d/50-sound.conf file. If you want to back it up, then back it up some where under /home/you-user-name.

Good luck.
