OpenSUSE 11.2 – Empty user list pre-logon

Sometimes my user list is empty on start-up. When it happens the buttons beneath the empty list (shutdown, suspend and restart), are not responding. As a work-around I login to the first terminal as root to restart the machine and usually my normal user account appears back on the list. This morning the reboot work-around didn’t work any more… please assist.

Did you every figure out what was the cause of this behavior. Sometimes my users list comes up empty too and the restart/shutdown buttons don’t work. It’s extremely annoying.

No, the problem still exists. I can’t figure out what triggers it, so it looks like it’s completely random :.

I will post the solution if I find one, I suggest you do the same…

I have this problem sometimes. Ctrl-Alt-Backspace-Backspace resets the GUI and then the user list almost always appears.

I know it sounds a little strange, but it has been a wile now since it occurred. Seems like the video card drivers had something to do with it. I am using the drivers from the ati repo now instead of the build-in drivers. :open_mouth:
