can i delete d: data and copy the files to c:
so that i have my 3 original partitions?
would this make it a little better?
Unfortunately this will not help. D: appears to be /dev/sda5 which is a logical partition
in your primary extended, you would need to also remove your primary extended, /dev/sda4
and here is the problem (well the largest one anyway, there are more), /dev/sda4 overlaps /dev/sda3.
/dev/sda3 appears to be windows C: deleting /dev/sda4 would also damage /dev/sda3
Your partitions (at least the ones with data on them) most at risk are /dev/sda3 and /dev/sda5
At a minimum, data you need from these partitions, needs to backed up, weather you install linux or not.
Your partitioning is a mess, don’t risk data you need.
hi
@ dvhenry seems that you were right, my partition is a mess.
today i started my laptop and partition D and with it all my data (music,Videos) are gone.
instead i now have 355 GB unallocated space. :’(
What can i do???
i dont really need the lost data, but how can i fix my hdd?
Help please
Sorry to read that, can you post fdisk -l output again, as it is now.
The data itself is most likely not gone, the partition table certainly has issues.
You can recover lost partitions with Test Disk but I doubt you’ll have much luck:

*Personally I’d consider it a lesson learned. Wipe the disk and re-install openSUSE

From which ever direction I look at this, you need a backup solution.
Perhaps a second internal hard disk, or what is referred to as a USB external hard disk,
They can be bought cheaply these days.
hi
i made a 2 pics with my mobile phone i hope you can read it.

D: is still unallocated.
should i give the unallocated space to C: ?
i have a external hdd 1 tb,
i borrowed it to a friend, i’ll get it on Wednesday.
thx for all the help
fdisk still sees an shows it, gparted plays it safe by not displaying it (you know if the disk is empty or not!)
Again TestDisk, check the link from caf4926
The data in that partition can probably be retrieved, Partition type is not detected, How much trouble do you want to go to?
i dont really care about the data.
i have all my important files on my external hdd.
all i want is my 3 original partitions from windows and the 2 recovery partitions.
is it possible to save these 3 partitions to my external hdd and format my complete drive?
i really need them i dont have any windows and driver cds and i need windows 7
but i still want to install opensuse later
i didn’t knew that creating and deleting partitions is so complicated.
thx
I would take care before considering any partition changes at this stage.

It is possible and preferable to save all partitions (If there is space, to the external disk)
i didn’t knew that creating and deleting partitions is so complicated.
It should not be, There seems to have been an issue with some third party partitioning software here.
There is always a risk of something going wrong, when that happens with partitioning, Well you can see where backups are important!
I still missed one of the main points here,
Deleting all partitions on this disk and redoing the partitioning is certainly the way to go once you have your backups.
i have a 1 Terabyte external hdd, its nearly full but i can make some space. (or does it have to be empty?)
it is save to give the unallocated space from D: to C: ?
how exactly can i copy partitions to my external hdd ?
when i have the backup and format the complete hdd,
how can i install windows 7 ?
thx for all the help

Ensure you have accurate copies of /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda2 the method used to initiate an install I am unaware of.Check with the vendor.
how exactly can i copy partitions to my external hdd ?
There are many ways, You could look at the linux program dd, use the “man dd” command to find out more.
it is save to give the unallocated space from D: to C: ?
I have not seen what
fdisk -l
shows us now, I expect it to be different to last time, so I can’t answer.

we don’t know how much space you have available.
i can make as much space on my external hdd as necessary
is there an graphical tool wich i can use?
i cannot handle command lines especially with such important thinks.
To the extent that it’s possible ‘Parted Magic’
Using Parted Magic an Introduction - openSUSE Forums
Will let you mount usable partitions in a UI
You can use ‘dd’ from a terminal otherwise
when i have the backup and format the complete hdd,
how can i install windows 7 ?
Allot of PC manufacturers who don’t supply instal DVDs give you a way to create one from the restore image on the hard disk, check there web site, and documents that came with the PC.
i tried the samsung hp they have a hdd diagnose tool but only 32bit
i wrote a email to the sony vaio support, maybe i can burn the recovery partitions.
parted magic works nice tool
right now i make a 2 hour hdd self test.
lets see what happens
